It’s so weird not hearing Sammy on these songs, but apparently in 1993 Steve filled in for a while, giving the LRB a completely different sound. And it’s good! Sort of makes you wonder how differently things would’ve been if one member had stayed longer. At any rate, it’s worth a watch for any LRB aficionado.

Well it might not be the 1st iteration of the Lonesome River Band but this is that original classic band that redefined progressive bluegrass in the early 90′s. I’m surprised there isn’t more on YouTube available of this era of the LRB but for now, this is all we have.

Quick story: When the DTB played locally at The Ark in 2009, my seat was directly behind the sound booth where Tim Austin was sittng. I was able to talk with Tim Austin for about 5 minutes before the show and asked him about these videos that I’m posting about here. He said they were shot at a show they did at a school in his town. He had been sitting on these because they were supposed to be released as a DVD at some point but that never panned out. So he put them up on YouTube.
